SP Furniture Series
We design products, furniture, and interiors both within our larger projects and as stand alone pieces. Our design process focuses on material research, blending functionality and experimentation into a fresh synthesis, often within well established mediums.
Direct daylight passes through the polished faces and casts a sundial-like form on the floor, tracking time throughout the day. Light entering at an angle is refracted endlessly within the table causing it to hold a steady glow. The entire piece is structurally engineered to be self-supporting in a manner borrowed from tension/cable bridge construction.
We extended our exploration of small form cantilevers and combined wood and steel to create a place to withdraw to and engage with one’s own work. The desk’s resulting two part maple top lends warmth and function to the intentionally heavy stainless steel support forms, creating a simple, solid and yet cohesive whole.
